Providence Hood River Receives Three Awards

Providence Hood River nurse managers were pleasantly surprised when Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital was awarded not one, but three clinical excellence awards at the regional managers' retreat in Newport.

"It was an amazing feeling to accept the awards on behalf of the Gorge Service Area," said Becky Kopecky, clinical educator. "These awards represent the collected effort of Providence Hood River's employees."

The first award, "Clinical Excellence in the Face of Adversity," given for unwavering dedication to assisting sister facilities, was given for the assistance provided in Vernonia, Ore., after the disastrous December floods. "We did what was the right thing to do," said Maria Elena Castro, outreach program manger. "Sending our Mobile Health Clinic to help those in need is just extending our Mission outside the walls of our hospital."

The second award, "Facility - Based Clinical Improvement," given for unwavering focus on patient safety, was presented for the elimination of patient falls, fall injuries and pressure ulcer reduction. "We've been successful because the entire team came together on this grass roots initiative," said Tami Milligan, nurse manager. "There have been no hospital-acquired skin issues for two years and we are at less than one fall per 1,000 patients."

The third award, "Outstanding Patient Satisfaction," was given for PHRMH's dedication to achieving outstanding patient satisfaction. PHR has been above 90 percent for overall patient satisfaction since 2005 and is one of only two hospitals in the Oregon Region to receive this award.

"Our culture of excellence speaks for itself," said Ty Erickson, chief executive. "I'm proud to be a part of this phenomenal Hood River team. They've proven that when you strive to be the best, you will."
