Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital team, with a 55.7 net score, includes Armanda Mason (left), Kevin Eakins, Jim Johnson and Laney Gale | | The 16th Annual Bedpan Open Golf Tournament was a sold-out success. The annual fundraiser for the Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital Foundation saw 128 golfers play to win an entertainment system, a car and $100,000 in cash. The day's activities raised over $20,000 toward the planned 10-bed rehabilitation unit to be situated in the hospital's west patient care wing. The unit staff will work with patients who have experienced strokes, spinal cord injuries, brain injuries, amputations and/or general neurological disorders. It will allow local patients to receive care without leaving their own community. It is expected to open in 2009.
Any player who made a hole-in-one on Hole 8 had a chance to win a shiny, new red Honda S2000 from Griffith Motors of The Dalles. Sadly, the keys went back to the dealer. At the same time, dozens of players bought raffle tickets for the chance to win $100,000 cash by sinking a hole-in-one on Hole 6. Though the four raffle winners gave it their best shots, no one left with the big check this year. The tournament, scheduled for the first time in the afternoon, ended with golfers and their guests enjoying appetizers, cocktails and a sumptuous buffet dinner at Divot's Restaurant. Prizes and a live auction led by event chairs Chuck Thomsen and Steve Bickford concluded the evening. This year's tournament also received the distinction of being a Portland Rose Festival Community Partner Event.
Bedpan Open Golf Tournament winning team names will appear on the coveted Bedpan trophy displayed outside the hospital foundation office.
"This year's Bedpan Open was a great success, for the golfers, their guests and the foundation," reported Foundation assistant and tournament organizer Jamie Guth. "We couldn't have done it without the help of our sponsors, our golfers and the great staff at Indian Creek Golf Course." Next year's Bedpan Open is scheduled for Saturday, May 31, 2008. |
