HOOD RIVER, Ore. – Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital recognizes the need to provide health information and services that address the unique needs of our community. Classes related to healthy living, carpal tunnel syndrome, diabetes education and sleep disorders will be held beginning in October.

WHAT:
A look at carpal tunnel syndrome. A free community forum.

Carpal tunnel syndrome is pain, tingling and other problems in your hand because of pressure on the median nerve in your wrist. Symptoms of this nerve disorder often start gradually and worsen over time. Do I need to take vitamins? Can they be dangerous? Do herbs really help? This class is designed to help navigate your way through the “supplement jungle.” You’ll learn about supplement labeling and regulation as well as the variety of uses. This class is taught by Miles Hassel, M.D., an internal medicine physician whose practice incorporates both traditional and evidence-based alternative medical approaches. Diabetic Education Series. A series of classes to educate and support those with diabetes.

DETAILS:
Whether you have a new diagnosis of diabetes or have had it for some time, Providence Diabetes Education Services offers patients and their families information and support. Diabetes educators will help you learn how to control diabetes through diet, exercise, stress management and medication.
Registration is required, and includes a one-hour private consultation. Insurance often covers the cost. Scholarships are available. A referral by your physician or health care provider is necessary. To register call (541) 387-6379.

Sleep apnea, insomnia and other sleep disorders can have serious side effects. Respiratory therapist Al Cady, a former sleep disorder sufferer and now the manager of Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital’s sleep clinic, will explain common sleep problems and what you or someone you care about can do to get your life back.
