HOSPITAL SEARCHES FOR PEOPLE WITH “HEARTS OF GOLD”
September 25, 2007
They are among us, these people with hearts of gold. Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital would like to honor two of them this year and is looking for nominations.
“Each year, we honor two individuals or agencies whose good works have made our community healthier,” says Rena Whittaker, the hospital’s foundation executive director. One award goes to a health professional and the other to a community member. Both are recognized for their paid or volunteer advocacy or action, making a difference in the health of the Hood River County community.
Nominations need to indicate if the nominee is a health professional or community member, and include a 500 or fewer word description of why the person is being nominated and who else might be contacted to support the nomination. It must also include the nominator’s name, phone number and e-mail address. Nominations need to be mailed or e-mailed to Rena Whittaker at the hospital, P.O. Box 149, Hood River, OR 97031, or rena.whittaker@providence.org by Friday, October 5, 2007. Nomination forms, though not required, are available on line at www.providence.org/hoodriver/foundation or by calling 541-387-6474.
The Hearts of Gold award program was launched in 2004, based on a similar program, “Achievements in Health Care,” that was begun by the hospital in the mid 1990’s. Previous winners include Wilson Appelgren, Tina Castañares, MD, Fran Cody, Leslie Cogswell, Joella Dethman, Marianne Durkan, Gayle Gray, Charles Haynie, MD, O.J. Hecomovich, RN, Beulah Herman, Susan Hess, Hood River County Health Department, Hospice of the Gorge, Mooreen Morris, Winifred Niemuth, Jan Thomson, RN, Rogers Wheatley, Tim Simmons, Stephen Vogt, MD, and Maija Yasui.
This year’s two winners will be announced publicly in mid October and will be honored at Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital Foundation’s annual “Hearts of Gold Gala” on Saturday evening, November 3, at the Best Western Hood River Inn. For more information on the award or the Hearts of Gold Gala, call the PHRMH Foundation office, 541-387-6474.
