PROVIDENCE ANNOUNCES FORMATION OF NEW
BARGAINING UNIT WITH OREGON NURSES ASSOCIATION
April 19, 2007
PORTLAND, Ore. - Home health and hospice nurses at Providence Home Services have voted to form a new bargaining unit within Providence Health System - Oregon Region. The nurses - who are employed in Providence's Portland and Yamhill service areas - will be represented by the Oregon Nurses Association (ONA). The vote was 85-28 in favor of representation, out of a total of 172 eligible voters.
The secret-ballot election took place on April 18, and was conducted by the National Labor Relations Board, according to federal law. This process is consistent with Providence's labor relations principles and guidelines. Providence honors and supports the choice made by these employees.
Providence will begin working with ONA as the representative of Providence's home health and hospice nurses. Providence looks forward to having a productive and collaborative relationship with the new ONA bargaining unit, continuing our commitment to providing exceptional patient care.
