ONA And Providence Announce New Labor Management Trust

August 20, 2007

Tualatin, OR - The Oregon Nurses Association (ONA) and Providence Health System - Oregon Region are pleased to announce the creation of a unique Labor Management Partnership and Trust that will address key Providence and ONA nursing and health care goals. The new Labor Management Partnership and Trust will help both partners meet professional development and training goals for Providence nurses through the funding of six new nursing positions. These positions will provide nurse education, support and communications assistance for Providence nursing staff.

"We are pleased and honored to work in this partnership with ONA to help achieve a new vision for the advancement of nursing," said Russ Danielson, chief executive, Providence Health System - Oregon Region. "This is an important example of how the collaboration between Providence and our partners at ONA supports innovative solutions that will help patients and nurses throughout the state."

Susan King RN, Executive Director of the ONA, said, "Providence and ONA share the goal of supporting the professional development of all nurses in Oregon. This new partnership will help us achieve those goals, and provide innovative strategies for training Oregon's future nurses."

The new collaboration is also designed to help the two organizations address some of the critical challenges facing Oregon's nurses and the larger health care community. These challenges include finding innovative ways to continually improve health care standards, educate and train future nursing professionals, and expand quality health care into more communities.

King continued, "This unique partnership gives us a chance to work together to optimize patient care, promote professional nursing practices, and develop and retain nursing staff. The Labor Management Partnership and Trust will provide funding for new staff so that both Providence and the ONA can develop objectives and measurable outcomes that will help all of the communities we serve."
