Poster Signing Remembers Japanese American Internment
A special poster titled, “It Happened in America…65 Years Ago,” remembers with photographs and facts the internment of 110,000 Japanese-Americans in 1942.
As part of Social Justice Month and Asian Heritage Month, Oregon and Washington residents interned during World War II are invited to sign a large version of the poster before and after Lise Yasui’s lecture and showing of her Academy Award-nominated film, “A Family Gathering,” Tuesday, May 8, 7:30 p.m., at Columbia Center for the Arts. The signed poster will be donated to the History Museum of Hood River County to become part of their permanent Japanese-American heritage display.
Copies of the poster, created at Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital and sponsored by Providence Oregon Region’s Office of Diversity, are on display at all Providence Hood River buildings, Providence buildings throughout Oregon, and at various public buildings and churches throughout Hood River County.
