PROVIDENCE HOOD RIVER MEMORIAL HOSPITALVERNONIA DISASTER RELIEF UPDATE:

Mobile Health Unit Field Report
Day 2 - Friday December 7, 2007 as of 4pm:

We are thrilled to be fulfilling our Providence "Mission in Motion," serving those in need in the town of Vernonia. It was amazing how quickly it all came together yesterday, with so many departments and staff members at Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital dropping everything, pitching in to help us get loaded and get out of town as quickly as possible.

We arrived in Vernonia yesterday afternoon and we got to work right away, with a briefing at the Incident Command Center. We're working collaboratively with many authorities and volunteers on the scene. All of us from the Mobile Health Unit team are so glad we came. We are very busy with the mobile unit and feel great about how we are helping. Between last night and today at 4pm, we've already seen and helped 141 Vernonia patients. Mostly we are giving out tetanus vaccines, performing diabetes work ups, applying sutures and caring for wounds. We are also seeing a lot of patients who need prescription refills (many either ran out of prescriptions due to evacuation or lost them in the flood).

We will not be able to serve the Columbia Gorge communities with our regularly scheduled Mobile Health Unit on Monday or Tuesday next week, but we will be back on n schedule again in the Gorge starting Wednesday, December 12 in Cascade Locks.

We are happy to represent the Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital team -- and all of the resident of the Columbia River Gorge-- in helping our Vernonia neighbors in need. Thank you for your support.

Yours truly,

The Mobile Health Unit Staff
