Mobile Health Unit Field Report
Sunday, December 9, 2007
Final Wrap Up
We worked our last day in Vernonia assisting the local Providence Clinic and working side-by-side with the State's Emergency Team and Disaster Medical Team. We continued to operate from our Mobile Medical Unit and the adjacent Community Center. We didn't expect to see many patients on a Sunday, but were surprised by more than 40 patients, most requiring medical care, not just a tetanus vaccine.
Today at 12:30pm, the Mobile Health Unit headed home for Hood River. I stayed behind to help the State team move all supplies and equipment to the new clinic site. Many of us had a chance to walk to the new Providence Clinic site. It is indeed, impressive. The clinic will be operating out of Western Shelter tents, complete with heat. They appear well stocked with equipment and medications and hourly shipments are arriving from Portland.
As many of you have heard, this is the first time the Mobile Health Unit has left Hood River County, and our first time providing disaster relief. This is also the first time for a collaboration and integration of Providence team (both from Hood River and Vernonia) with the Disaster Medical Team of Oregon (OR-DMAT). I felt honored to be a part of this mission and pleased that we were able to get out the door so quickly last Thursday. Thank you to everyone who made this successful.
Sincerely,
Jan Loomis, R.N.
