Hospital Offers Winter Health Classes

It's cold, a bit dreary, and a great time to pay attention to our bodies, which often are neglected and unloved this time of year. Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital is offering three classes to help participants take a fresh look at themselves. All three classes will be held in the hospital's Education Center.

If you're concerned about fine lines and wrinkles on your face and neck, come to a talked titled "Your Best Face Forward" and learn how Botox, Restylane, Radiance, facial peels and other skin resurfacing products and procedures work. Facial cosmetic surgeon Mendy Maccabee, MD, and esthetician Mary Lively, will explain, through slides and lecture, about the various choices now available in our community. The talk is set for Monday, February 6, 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.
 
Everyone needs to eat. The trick is to figure out how to eat foods we like without gaining weight in the process. "Controlling Weight Gain" will the subject of a talk by registered dietician and diabetes educator Kelly Chambers and psychologist and registered dietician Dr. Kellie Oosterbaan Participants will learn, once and for all, why we have cravings, why diets do not work, and factors that may contribute to eating disorders. This class, on Tuesday, February 7, 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., is especially for people who hardly eat anything and still gain weight. There will be plenty of time for questions and answers.

On Monday, February 13, 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. esthetician Mary Lively will present a talk, "Loving the Skin You're In." She will share the basics of caring for this important part of our body and soul. Find out how to effectively treat various skin conditions, like aging skin, acne and rosacea. Learn what ingredients to look for in your skin care products, how they work and what to avoid.
