A graduate of the University of Colorado Medical School, Dr. John Garcia did both an internship and residency in surgery at David Grant USAF Medical Center, California. He was in private practice and on the surgical staff at several hospitals in Spokane, Washington before moving to Hood River.
Arriving in the Gorge in 1999 with 21 years of surgical experience and a love of the outdoors, Dr. Garcia joined the Providence Hood River Surgeons Clinic. He and his wife Dede, feel right at home with the many outdoor activities available in the Gorge. Some of his favorites are fly-fishing, mountain biking, bird hunting and hiking.

Christeen Osborn, M.D., is Providence Hood River’s first female general surgeon. She and her husband recently moved to Hood River to embrace the outdoor opportunities, healthy lifestyle and the personalization of a small town. “My husband grew up fly fishing in Oregon, so great fly fishing along with the endless outdoor activities were a huge draw,” she said. “I love the uniqueness of the Gorge communities and I look forward to treating patients here and meeting new friends.
“I want to connect with my patients on a personal level and help them through whatever ails them,” she continued. “I become deeply invested in their well-being. That sense of fulfillment is what attracted me to the medical field.”
A graduate of Stonybrook University School of Medicine in N.Y., Dr. Osborn completed her residency in Boston at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center - Harvard. She most recently worked in a rural, community hospital in Alamosa, Colorado. She is extensively trained in the diseases/disorders of the gastrointestinal system, breast, skin/soft tissue, endocrine organs, vein care, laparoscopy and endoscopy.

Dr. Hauty was born in Rochester, NY and raised in Texas, Oklahoma & Delaware. He attended the University of Virginia for his undergraduate studies. After deciding to pursue a medical career, he completed his pre-med requirements at the University of Texas-Austin and medical school at Southwestern Medical School at the University of Texas Health Science Center-Dallas.
Fulfilling a lifelong dream of living in the Pacific Northwest, Dr. Hauty completed his internship & residency in surgery at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland. He joined the Portland Clinic as a general surgeon and maintained an active, broad-based practice there for twelve years. He also provided many years of trauma care as a staff trauma surgeon at both of Oregon's Level 1 trauma centers, OHSU & Emanuel Hospital.
Seeking a lifestyle change, Dr. Hauty and his wife relocated to the Hood River area, where he joined Providence Hood River Surgeons Clinic in 2001. This change has allowed him time to participate in short term international medical missions, most recently with Doctors Without Borders in Burundi, Africa. Other medical pursuits include wilderness and event medicine as well as bodywork and acupuncture. |
