 About the Doctors

  Stephan Coffman, MD
General surgeon, Stephan Coffman, M.D., is a perfect fit for the active lifestyle and family atmosphere of the Columbia River Gorge. A cyclist, hiker, skier and family man, Dr. Coffman, like many Gorge residents, loves the city but isn't a city person.

Raised in Pittsburgh, Pa., he finds himself drawn to smaller communities. He believes that you become involved beyond the scope of your profession when you live and work in a small community because the people you serve are your neighbors and your friends.

A graduate of Medical College of Pennsylvania, Dr. Coffman was "resident of the year" at Robert Packard Hospital where he completed his surgery internship and residency. He is board certified in general surgery.

Dr. Coffman and his family move to Hood River to enjoy the outdoors and beauty the Northwest offers. He is excited about experiencing the quality of life and quality of people in the Gorge.

  John Garcia, MD, FACS
A graduate of the University of Colorado Medical School, Dr. John Garcia did both an internship and residency in surgery at David Grant USAF Medical Center, California. He was in private practice and on the surgical staff at several hospitals in Spokane, Washington before moving to Hood River.

Arriving in the Gorge in 1999 with 21 years of surgical experience and a love of the outdoors, Dr. Garcia joined the Providence Hood River Surgeons Clinic. He and his wife Dede, feel right at home with the many outdoor activities available in the Gorge. Some of his favorites are fly-fishing, mountain biking, bird hunting and hiking.
