Safe Crossings - Teen Activities

One special activity teens have found useful is to journal their thoughts and feelings.
Every teen’s grief experience is different. Each teen expresses their thoughts and feelings in a number of ways. Here are some approaches to journaling teens have found helpful:

My first feeling was . . . Now I feel . . .

What makes me most angry is . . .

I worry about  . . . because . . .

My friends tell me . . .

The adults in my life tell me . . .

People I trust are  . . .

What helps me the most is . . .

What helps me the least is  . . .

Here are some other activities teens have found fun and helpful:

Write or draw spontaneously on mural paper taped to the wall

Create a collage using pictures and words cut from old magazines

Write a short story about your loved one that includes a positive memory, or a solution to an issue. Just write like you talk, like you’re telling a story to a close friend

Write a poem, eulogy or song

Launch a balloon with an attached message to your loved one

Write a letter to your loved one – things you want to say that you still wish you could

Collect some mementos, some special items to reflect on and write about what they mean to you
