Safe Crossings - For Teachers & Counselors

Supporting children in times of change and loss

How do you support a child through experiences such as family illness, the death of an important person and other significant family losses?

Safe Crossings has been offering grief and loss consultations for teachers and counselors for the past several years. With the help of our bereavement counselors, you will gain practical knowledge about children’s grief responses and how you can best support a child in times of change.

We cater our services to the needs of schools and communities to provide specialized support concerning specific grief issues. If children and teens in your school or community are affected by the serious illness or death of a significant person in their lives, we can provide guidance to teachers and counselors as well as short term clinical support for kids and/or their parents.

Schools

Consultation is available for teachers and staff when a critical incident, such as a serious illness or sudden death of a staff member or student, has occurred in the school. Specialized educational forums for staff, students and parents are also available. We also facilitate group sessions for students who have experienced the death of a significnat person. We assist school counselors in finding referrals to professionals who have specialized experience in loss and grief when needed.

Community Counselors

We provide one-on-one consultation concerning specific grief issues. We are available to  assist with the behavioral assessment of a child whose grief may be impacting academic performance and/or social interaction. We bring a specialized experience base to community counselors on how to best support the grief response needs of children.

Safe Crossings also provides written literature concerning children’s grief response. Please call 206-749-7723 for more information. And if you know of a child or teen who may be experiencing grief, our Safe Crossings site may help them as well.
