O'Christmas Trees: Signature Cocktail Contest

BalMar Cocktail Lounge wins Providence O’Christmas Trees
2007 “Signature Cocktail” Contest

A sweet and light martini spiked with Caribbean flavors called “Wonderland” and created by BalMar Cocktail Lounge in Ballard won top honors this month at the fourth annual Providence O’Christmas Trees Signature Cocktail Contest.

The holiday-inspired cocktail will be served at the Nov. 28 Providence O’Christmas Trees Gala Dinner and Auction to benefit Providence Senior and Community Services programs. Professional judges from BACARDI USA at the Oct. 10 cocktail party at The Space Needle in Seattle voted “Wonderland” the winner among 10 beverages created by noted Seattle-area mixologists. Participants included Oliver’s Bar, Elliott’s Oyster House, SpringHill Suites Marriott, Sazerac, SkyCity, El Gaucho, SeaStar Restaurant & Raw Bar, The Metropolitan Grill and Tini Bigs Lounge.

Elliott’s Oyster House won most congenial mixologist/bartender and SpringHill Suites Marriot walked away with honors for best presentation. Other participants received honorable mention awards for their spectacular entries.

“Wonderland” was created by Joey Balsamo, bartender at BalMar Cocktail Lounge. The shimmering golden cocktail features Grey Goose vodka, Amaretto, Yellow Chartreuse, orange zest and is served in a sugar-rimmed glass.

“BalMar’s cocktail is a sure winner and will be a hit at our gala in November,” said Patricia Szabo, executive director of Providence O’Christmas Trees. “It will look stunning flowing through the glass sculpture from which it will be served.”

Guests of the O’Christmas Trees Gala Dinner and Auction at the Westin Seattle will be treated to the cocktail – served through an ice sculpture bar - as they support those in need through healthcare, housing and hospice in King County.

Guests invited to the O’Christmas Trees signature cocktail party not only had the opportunity to try individually designed cocktails with Grey Goose vodka, but enjoyed a buffet meal of food donated by The Space Needle.
