Art inspires. Art transforms. Art heals

Children and adults in the Santa Clarita Valley are invited to submit their creations to “the Art of HEALING,” a program designed to enhance the talents of young artists while providing a healing environment to patients at Providence Holy Cross Health Center in Valencia.
The project, a joint collaboration between Providence Holy Cross and the Santa Clarita Artists’ Association and sponsored by KHTS AM-1220 and HMC Architects. There are two key elements to the Art of Healing include 1) allowing Santa Clarita elementary school students to have a venue to display their art and compete for scholarships, and 2), to use the healing power of art to provide additional comfort and care to cancer patients and others who receive medical services from the new
outpatient center.
“I was looking at all these bare walls, and I said we could use some art,” said Jeri Seratti-Goldman, owner of KHTS AM-1220 who conceived of the program while touring the Providence Holy Cross Health Center. Jeri stated. “I thought of those cancer patients sitting for hours receiving chemo and realized this would be an incredible project to take on.”
“There are so many talented local artists in our Valley, and many are excited about displaying their art at Providence Holy Cross,” said Sandy Fisher from the Santa Clarita Artists’ Association. “People will be amazed when they see the work our local artists are producing. We intend to rotate the art often so a diverse representation can be displayed.”
Seratti-Goldman’s mother, Jean Seratti, underwent nine months of chemo-therapy at Providence Holy Cross. Jeri said her mother’s experience is one reason why she is passionate about launching the art project.
“This will be an on-going event.” Seratti-Goldman said. “It will give our kids a chance to display their talents and hopefully put a smile on the face of those receiving treatment at Providence Holy Cross.”
