Facing the Challenge of a Health Care Crisis

Providence Holy Cross: Addressing the Health Care Crisis in the San Fernando Valley:
While 10 hospitals have closed in Los Angeles County in the last four years, including two within a six-mile radius of the Mission Hills community, Providence Holy Cross Medical Center is planning an expansion to meet the health care needs of a growing community.

Providence Holy Cross: What is Right for the Environment:
Providence Holy Cross Medical Center’s new patient care South Addition will receive a LEED certification that is the nationally accepted benchmark for environmentally conscious design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings.  Only three hospitals in the nation have received this certification.  In addition, Providence Holy Cross Medical Center will ensure the most green-conscious construction environment that will include the use of ultra-low sulfur diesel and/or alternative diesel formulations in all construction vehicles.

Providence Holy Cross:  A Community Partner for Five Decades:
Providence Holy Cross has worked with the local community for several years to help design and build the new patient care South Addition.  With community input, Providence Holy Cross has added measures to protect the environment and mitigate traffic and parking congestion.  In addition, as is part of our mission, Providence Holy Cross has focused on the underserved community to ensure that the new patient care South Addition meets their health care needs.  In 2006, Providence Holy Cross provided more than $10 million in charity care and community outreach to more than 42,000 low-income members of the community, and another $12 million in uncompensated care to Medi-Cal patients.  Outreach programs include free removal of anti-social tattoos, health education to the Latino community and community-based nurses in the Faith Community Health Partnership.

Providence Holy Cross: A Great Place to Work:
Holy Cross strives to be an Employer of Choice.  In recent surveys, four out of every five employees stated that Providence Holy Cross “is a great place to work.”  The new patient care South Addition will provide an additional 250 full-time jobs, as well as 171 construction jobs. We are committed to fostering a just and equitable work environment that affirms the dignity of the individual by upholding our core values of Justice, Respect, Compassion, Excellence and Stewardship.
