Providence Saint Joseph Receives the Gold Seal of Approval from The Joint Commission for Advanced Primary Stroke Centers
Time Lost is Brain Lost
From the moment someone begins to suffer a stroke, seconds count. When the blood stops flowing, brain cells begin to die. Clot-busting drugs can help. They must, however, be administered within three hours.
Every three minutes someone dies of a stroke. Immediate treatment can save lives and enhance the chances for successful recovery.
Patients who receive care in a Stroke Unit (versus a general medical ward) have a 17 percent reduction in death, a seven percent increase in the ability to live at home and an eight percent reduction in length of hospital stay of the stroke.
