The Latino Health Promoter Program establishes and maintains a health outreach within local communities. Latino Health Promoters are volunteer community members who receive extensive training on health topics, then provide health and referral information to community residents of all ages and backgrounds. These volunteers provide the diverse cultural population of the San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys with health screenings and workshops, support groups, health fair sponsorship, health information booths at churches and health information classes on diabetes, nutrition, breast self-exams and natural family planning. Volunteers also aid in linking people with benefits such as insurance, Healthy Families and Medi-Cal. The Latino Health Promoters develop a close bond with the people they serve to show that compassion and kindness go along with health care. |
