Specialized care for cancers of the larynx, thyroid, oral cavity and sinuses and other cancers in the head and neck area.

Thyroid Cancer
Endometrial cancer forms in the thyroid gland (an organ at the base of the throat that makes hormones that help control heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature, and weight). Four main types of thyroid cancer are papillary, follicular, medullary, and anaplastic thyroid cancer.  According to the National Cancer Institute, early thyroid cancer often does not cause symptoms. But as the cancer grows, symptoms may include:

  • A lump, or nodule, in the front of the neck near the Adam's apple;
  • Hoarseness or difficulty speaking in a normal voice;
  • Swollen lymph nodes, especially in the neck;
  • Difficulty swallowing or breathing; or
  • Pain in the throat or neck.

Throat (Laryngeal and Pharyngeal) Cancer
Throat cancer is throat cancer: Cancer that forms in tissues of the pharynx (the hollow tube inside the neck that starts behind the nose and ends at the top of the windpipe and esophagus). Throat cancer includes cancer of the nasopharynx (the upper part of the throat behind the nose), the oropharynx (the middle part of the pharynx), and the hypopharynx (the bottom part of the pharynx). Cancer of the larynx (voice box) may also be included as a type of throat cancer.  According to the National Cancer Institute, the symptoms of cancer of the larynx depend mainly on the size of the tumor and where it is in the larynx. Symptoms may include the following:

  • Hoarseness or other voice changes
  • A lump in the neck
  • A sore throat or feeling that something is stuck in your throat
  • A cough that does not go away
  • Problems breathing
  • Bad breath
  • An earache
  • Weight loss
  • These symptoms may be caused by cancer or by other, less serious problems.
