Three Types of Cardiology:

  1. Interventional Cardiology, which includes medical or surgical procedures to prevent or stop a heart attack in progress, or correct many other heart problems. Interventions may include angioplasty, atherectomy and stents.
  2. Medical Cardiology, which is the management of cardiac diseases with medications and lifestyle changes. Problems that typically respond well to medical therapy include angina, irregular heart rhythms, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.
  3. Surgical Cardiology, which ranges from minimally invasive or “keyhole” procedures to traditional coronary artery bypass surgery (CABG).
