The Providence Saint Joseph and Providence Holy Cross Medical Center Outpatient Program is a comprehensive rehabilitation program, offering a wide range of therapy services. Our Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapists are specially trained in the treatment of children from infants to adult with neurologic, orthopedic and general medical diagnoses.
The Pediatric Outpatient Program was established as part of the comprehensive Rehabilitation Departments at the Providence Centers. The Departments are dedicated to meeting the needs of patients and their families through numerous specialized service lines, and are preferred providers of California Children’s Services.
Integrated Approach
The Pediatric Outpatient Program seeks to create a warm and comfortable environment to provide the maximum potential for care. Our interdisciplinary team approach focuses on optimum treatment, encompassing the whole child to meet his or her specific needs. Each member of the team provides highly skilled services. The rehabilitation team works closely with each patient and family to create a treatment plan based on the individual needs of the patient. We offer a complete range of rehabilitative services and the latest in rehabilitative technology to meet the challenges of each patient and their particular needs.
Program Goals
The Pediatric Outpatient Program therapists:
- Provide physical, occupational, and speech therapy evaluations to determine appropriateness of care
- Assist the patient and family in determining appropriate short-term and long-term goals
- Help develop skills that allow the patient to increase functional abilities to maximize independence
- Evaluate the patient to review progress, establish new goals and review approaches
- Assess the patients’ rehabilitation needs based on their progress
- Guide and encourage the patient and family to take responsibility for their recovery

Persons with the following post-acute conditions may benefit from treatment:
- Cerebral Palsy
- Brain Injury
- Spina Bifida
- Muscular Dystrophy
- Spinal Cord injury
- Lower Extremity Amputees
- Orthopedic Conditions
- Multiple Trauma
- Neuromuscular Disorders
- Other non-progressive pediatric disorders
- Most important, the patient and family must be motivated to learn.
Outcomes
Studies have found that physical therapy is an effective treatment to decrease pain and increase function.
