What you Should -- and Should Not -- Bring with You
You will need a robe, slippers, and personal items. Although the hospital supplies gowns, you might prefer your own sleeping garments.
Please leave cash and other valuables at home. We cannot be responsible for personal items at your bedside. You may want to have a small amount of money, not more than $5.00, for buying incidentals during your stay.
When you come to the hospital, please bring a list of the medications you take (prescription, over-the-counter vitamin/mineral supplements and herbal remedies). The list should include the medication name, strength and directions for use. Informa-tion regarding allergies/medication intolerance and the type of reaction that occurred is also very important and should be included on the list. If you do bring medications with you, they will be reviewed and possibly sent back home. If medications cannot be sent home, they will be stored in the pharmacy until discharged. Eyeglasses, dentures, and hearing aids should be put in a safe place when not in use. If you wear contact lenses, bring the container. If you need a special container for dentures, we can provide one.
For your own safety and that of others in the hospital, please do not use personal electrical devices such as hair dryers, curling irons and electric razors. Ask your nurse if you have a special need.
Lost Items
If you lose something during your stay at Providence Medford Medical Center, please notify your nurse immediately and every effort will be made to help you find it. Unclaimed articles are turned in to our Security Department, where they are kept for 30 days. To inquire about lost articles, please call 732-6467.
Safety Drills
Our JCAHO (Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations) hospital accreditation requires that our staff be well-educated and practiced on safety issues. Our Engineering department regularly conducts fire safety, crime prevention programs and drills for staff members. Your nurse will let you know if any alarms you hear indicate an actual emergency.
Security
The Security department strives to ensure the safety and security of all patients and visitors in the hospital. Trained officers provide around-the-clock security for the medical center and medical office buildings. If you have questions or concerns about security, please call the operator by dialing zero (0).
