Our Mission
As people of Providence we reveal God's love for all, especially the poor and vulnerable, through our compassionate service.
Charity and philanthropy are uniquely different and not interchangeable, but in tandem they are powerful influences over societal needs. At Providence Medford Medical Center (PMMC), both are deeply imbedded in our culture, mission and vision for the future. The Providence mission is the foundation for our 100-year legacy of serving the poor and vulnerable in our community. Philanthropy is one of the pillars that perpetuates the mission, and because of this PMMC is able to care for all patients regardless of their ability to pay.
The Medical Center, recognized for its quality and compassionate patient care, is guided by generous charity policies. Charity at Providence is actualized by the provision of medical services or personal needs resulting from health related issues. Charity, while undeniably beneficial to a recipient during their time of need, is a short-term solution. It meets the individual's immediate and often critical need, but does not resolve or eliminate the underlying causes of the need.
Philanthropy is the vehicle that facilitates the passing of assets from benefactors to the organizations that steward those funds towards an intended purpose. At PMMC philanthropy is facilitated through the work of the Foundation, formed for the specific purpose of supporting charity care, education and capital projects. The Foundation Board of Directors, the PMMC Administrative Team and Foundation staff all strive to inform the general public about our charitable mission and the need to develop a shared concern for the less fortunate in our community. In 2007, the Foundation allocated $5.4 million in philanthropic dollars to PMMC for the continuation of the mission.
