PMMC Celebrates Opening of New Emergency Services Department

MEDFORD, Ore (08/12/05)  -- The new Emergency Services Department at Providence Medford Medical Center is being celebrated with a public grand opening event.  The community is invited to tour the new facility on Saturday, August 20, from 1:00 – 3:00pm.

“The new department was designed by our clinical staff, physicians and support staff, with input from patients and families,” says Kathy Skipper, Assistant Administrator of Patient Care Services.  “Our primary focus during expansion is to meet the needs of our patients, their family and to enhance support to our growing community.”
The new building features an additional 24,000 square feet of patient care area with specialized rooms for trauma, critical care, women’s health, pediatrics, acute intervention and radiology.  “All rooms and specialty units are equipped with state-of-the-art technology,” says Skipper, “The interior layout of the new department is designed to promote efficiency in all areas of patient care and workflow.”

A new clinical decision unit has been added, as well as a hazardous materials and decontamination unit.  For children, there is a child’s play area complete with a creative and interactive mural.  One addition not to be missed is the magnificent 80-year-old antique art glass window from the chapel at Providence Seattle Medical Center. It is anticipated that emergency personnel at Providence Medford Medical Center will attend to nearly 30,000 patient visits in its Emergency Department this year.

KRWQ radio is doing a live broadcast from the new emergency department. Mercy Flights will have its air rescue helicopter available for tours. There will be refreshments from TCBY and Starbucks, plus a special gift for the first 50 guests – one per family, please.  For more information about the grand opening, contact Lauren Van Sickle, Public Relations Coordinator at Providence Medford Medical Center at 732-6753.
