  • Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in women in America
  • In 2004, nearly 216,000 new cases of breast cancer are expected in the United States – 2,750 of them in Oregon
  • The risk of breast cancer increases as women age and is uncommon in women younger than 35
  • For most women, mammograms should begin at age 40 and continue throughout her lifetime
  • About 1,450 new cases of breast cancer are expected in men in 2004
  • Ways to reduce the risk of breast cancer include: a diet low in fat and high in dietary fiber, fresh fruits and vegetables; limited alcohol, not smoking and staying active
