  • Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in women in America.

  • In 2009, there have been 193,000 estimated new cases of breast cancer in the United States.

  • The risk of breast cancer increases as women age and is uncommon in women younger than 35.

  • For most women, mammograms should begin at age 40 and continue throughout her lifetime.

  • About 1,910 new cases of breast cancer are expected in men in 2009.

  • Ways to reduce the risk of breast cancer include: a diet low in fat and high in dietary fiber, fresh fruits and vegetables; limited alcohol, not smoking and staying active.
