Providence Breast Center Receives Award of Excellence

The Leila J. Eisenstein Breast Center at Providence Medford Medical Center has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR), the only breast imaging center in southern Oregon and the second in the state to achieve this distinction. "This designation recognizes our staff's dedication and commitment to improving women's health by participating in the ACR's voluntary and mandatory accreditation programs," says Amy McCormick, manager of Providence's breast center.
Peer-review evaluations by board-certified physicians and medical physicists determined that the Providence breast center and its staff achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs.
Breast imaging services at Providence are fully accredited by ACR in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy. Accreditation requires that each piece of imaging equipment pass an annual physics inspection. Every technologist operating the equipment must have initial training and ongoing education. The technologist must also perform a certain volume of exams in order to meet the ACR's qualifications.
