Southern Oregon Service Area

Thomas S. HanenburgMEDFORD, Ore (11/07/05)  -- Providence Health System is pleased to announce it has hired Thomas S. Hanenburg as the new chief executive of the Providence Southern Oregon Service Area. This includes accountability for Providence Medford Medical Center, Providence Medical Group, and Providence Community Health Foundation.

Hanenburg comes to Providence from Duke University Health System (DUHS) in Raleigh, North Carolina where he has worked the past seven years, most recently as chief operating officer for five years and as the lead of new business development for DUHS two years prior. DUHS is a 186-bed acute-care hospital with 850 full-time employees.

Hanenburg has a wide range of expertise in physician recruitment, finance, strategic planning, construction and new service line development.  "I am very proud to have been selected to lead the Providence Southern Oregon Service Area and to work for such an outstanding group of physicians, employees and community board members. Providence Medford Medical Center has a reputation for excellence and quality, and I look forward to helping build on its previous successes, particularly as the hospital expands its already substantial clinical service lines.”  Additionally, Hanenburg has extensive experience in developing programs for oncology and cardiology.

Prior to his positions at Duke, Hanenburg was the chief executive officer for Franklin Regional Medical Center in Louisburg, NC, where he was responsible for all operational and fiscal affairs.

“Tom is a skilled health care leader and strategist, and also is an involved community member,” said Russ Danielson, chief executive, Providence Health System – Oregon. “As important is his dedication to caring for the underserved, which is key to our Providence mission.”

Hanenburg received his master’s degree in health services administration and his bachelor’s degree in personnel management from Arizona State University, Tempe.
