New CT Scanner at Providence --
First of Its Kind in Southern Oregon

MEDFORD, Ore (11/08/06)  -- A new 64-slice CT scanner at Providence Medford Medical Center is the first of a new generation of diagnostic tools in our region. This imaging technology has dramatically improved image quality and has opened up new possibilities for prevention, early detection and diagnosis of serious medical conditions.

In just seconds, the scanner produces high resolution, 3-D images of all types of anatomy, including the heart, other organs, bone and blood vessels in seconds, revealing greater anatomical detail.  Computer software is used to create studies from the images that offer more information to radiologists to use in their diagnosis.

The 64-slice scanner quickly captures images within six to 15 seconds.  This is compared to 20-40 seconds on previous technology. The shorter scan times mean more detailed images and allows for a more comfortable patient experience.
