MEDFORD, Ore (12/14/05) -- The 2005 Providence Festival of Trees is the most successful Festival in its 14-year history. A record amount of over $420,000 was raised for cardiac services at Providence Medford Medical Center during the five-day event. Another record was set when ten of the 36 trees purchased during the auction were donated to community organizations.
“This year’s Festival of Trees was especially rewarding due to the number of trees donated to other non-profits,” says Susan Toner, Executive Director of Providence Community Health Foundation. “The heartfelt responses of joy from the organizations who are blessed with the gift of a designer tree are testimony to Festival being a gift to the community.” The recipients of those donated trees include La Clinica de Valle, Dunn House, Kids Unlimited, Children’s Advocacy Center, Crossroads, Magdalene House, CASA of Southern Oregon, VA Domiciliary, Boys & Girls Club of White City and RVMC Pediatric Ward.
The tree that won the “Festival Favorite” Award was Silent Night by Harry and David Product Design Team. The playhouse built by South Medford High School students with the help of Home Builders Association went to Lithia Dodge. Also another first this year, the Festival hosted the Medford/Jackson County Chamber Greeters.
More than 20,000 people walked through the doors of the Medford Armory during the Festival, which included a formal dinner and auction, a holiday party and three days of public viewing offering raffles, a holiday store and visits with Santa.
Funds raised from this year’s event will be used to enhance cardiac services at Providence Medford Medical Center with the procurement of Cardiac Picture Archive Communication Systems (PACS). Cardiac PACS improves cardiac technology by replacing still photos with moving pictures of the heart and surrounding blood vessels. These pictures can be stored and shared online with other healthcare providers within minutes.
