MEDFORD, Ore (03/29/06) -- Providence Medford Medical Center has been selected as the site for the ceremonial planting of the commemorative rose honoring the late Pope John Paul II. The rose planting ceremony will be held Wednesday, April 5 at 10:00 a.m. near the entrance to the Providence Emergency Department.
The Vatican chose the magnificent white rose from Jackson & Perkins Company of Medford. Its debut coincides with the one-year anniversary of the Pontiff’s death. “Pope John Paul II was a strong advocate for healthcare,” says Father James Clifford, Director of Mission, Ethics and Spiritual Care at Providence. “His attitude of caring for those in need mirrored the Mission of Providence. We are proud to be the recipient of this rose in honor of our late Holy Father, and to be the recipient of those who need healthcare today.”
Jackson & Perkins Company is donating ten percent of the net proceeds from the sale of the commemorative rose to a charity benefiting the poor in Africa.
