Providence Medford Medical Center opened the doors to its newly expanded maternity center on March 26, 2007. With the addition of six new delivery rooms and a surgery suite, Providence BirthPlace now hosts a total of 14 delivery rooms, two surgical suites dedicated to Cesarean births, and a community education room. In addition to the expansion, the original BirthPlace is receiving a renovation and upgrades for added patient comfort and aesthetics. The $4.7 million project is financed with $2.7 million from Providence Community Health Foundation and $2 million from Providence Health System. Providence BirthPlace opened in 1995 in response to community need and to provide a continuum of patient care at PMMC. In the past dozen years, and with the addition of the physicians and healthcare providers of PMG/OB-Gyn Health Center, there has been a steady increase in the number of births at Providence – from 447 in 2000 to over 600 deliveries in 2006.
