Providence Medford Medical Center Inpatient Cancer Care

A special wing in the medical center, with all-private and spacious rooms, is dedicated to inpatient cancer care. A complete range of specialized services is available, including chemotherapy, respite care, recovery from surgery or other treatment.

Patients receive the full and focused attention of a team of doctors, chemotherapy-certified registered nurses, certified nursing assistants, pharmacists, patient care coordinators, dietitians and chaplains.

There are five over-sized care rooms that contain a day bed for family members, TV for patient and caregiver, VCR, refrigerator, and table and chairs so that loved ones may dine together in the room.

A comfortably furnished Family Resource Room contains a reference library of cancer-related and inspirational publications, a computer with Internet access for online health research, a TV, VCR, CD player, information videotapes and a conference table for small-group gatherings. Families are invited to use the refrigerator and microwave oven to prepare snacks or light meals, and to use the area for quiet time when necessary.

Other Inpatient Services
  • A dedicated pharmacist is on the unit to provide expert support with special cancer drugs.
  • A dietitian is available to help patients and families living with cancer address issues like weight loss or gain, or how to deal with nausea or changes in taste that affect nutrition.
  • A tub room features a relaxing whirlpool bath with a step-in design for easy access and total body immersion.
  • A private conference room offers a personal area for physicians, spiritual care or other staff members to meet with patients and their families or caregivers.
  • An experienced patient care coordinator can help with personal or financial needs such as insurance, housing, long-term care and discharge planning. The patient care coordinator can also suggest referrals to a number of cancer-related community support groups and service agencies that offer assistance.
