For many individuals and families, a diagnosis of cancer brings the need for information. You may want to know about the illness itself and treatment options. You may want to learn about how cancer can affect your physical and emotional health. You may be interested in support programs.
The American Cancer Society Resource Center, located off the waiting room in Providence Cancer Center, provides a comfortable place to learn. The Center offers books, brochures, computers, videotapes and audio tapes to help you find the information and support you may need. Part reference room and part lending library, the Resource Center is staffed by volunteers who have faced the challenge of cancer and are committed to helping you.
The Center also has information on community resources, support groups, hospice care and other programs for cancer patients and their families.
If you want help searching the Internet, you can stop in and use the high-speed computers or call the Center and ask a volunteer for assistance. Use of the Resource Center and computers is a free service and available to everyone.
