My name is Ingga and this is my story.
I made the decision to have weight loss surgery at Providence Little Company of Mary to improve my quality of life and overall health. My weight caused me to have severe osteoarthritis, making daily activities painful and challenging. While I was walking one day, my knees suddenly gave way and I fell. I knew then that I had to make a change. If I had waited just three more years, I would have needed a wheelchair.
Since having the surgery:
- My biggest success has been being able to walk without having trouble breathing which makes daily activities enjoyable again! In addition, my blood pressure is lower, putting me at lower risk of associated complications and conditions.
- My biggest challenge has been resisting food temptations. Cooking for my family during the holidays and not eating breaded sweets can be difficult. Luckily, there are many healthy alternatives that I can turn to.
- My favorite go to healthy meal is Portobello Mushroom Pizza, scoring healthy points by switching out traditional pizza dough with the mushroom, and then adding toppings, such as chicken and spinach.
I feel motivated every day to make more positive lifestyle changes and continue my weight loss journey by remembering the pain I had to live with before the surgery. I also have my family and my coach, Aunt Anna, who continue to motivate and support me every step of the way.
Before any life journey, your mind, body and spirit should be as one. It is the same mindset and commitment needed to ensure a successful weight loss journey. Ask yourself: What got you to the weight you are now? What’s causing you to overeat?
My advice for anyone deciding to make a change and have weight loss surgery is to start by redirecting your focus from overeating towards a hobby, expressing your feelings in a journal, and talking to a therapist. Most importantly, listen to your doctor! Do everything that your healthcare providers advise you to do. They are the professionals and have your best interests at heart.
I am so grateful to Dr. Solomon and the whole team at Providence Little Company of Mary for helping me on my weight loss journey. From my first office visit to the surgery and follow-up care, they have always been encouraging and professional.
