Providence Community Care steps in to help when access is slim

Free urgent dental care is provided by volunteer dentists in the dental care van at Providence Seaside four times a year.

If you are not familiar with Providence Community Care, we’d like to share some information about this vital outreach project of Providence Seaside Hospital.

Providence Community Care is a low-cost health care clinic that provides necessary health care to those who may not otherwise have access to care. Early medical treatment often can prevent more serious problems; too often, however, people can’t afford the early treatment they need. We believe that a lack of income should not prevent people from obtaining help or services. Providence Community Care helps people with their immediate medical problems and offers guidance for ongoing care.

Clinic location and hours
The Providence Community Care health clinic is located at Providence North Coast Clinic in Suite 101 (downstairs). Physicians and other health care professionals see patients in the clinic on Tuesday nights from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Most clinic staff members volunteer their time and services, so you may see different people each time you are treated there.

In an emergency, call 9-1-1
Do not come to the clinic for medical emergencies – call 911 or go to a hospital emergency department.

Providence Community Care cannot treat chest pain or other extreme pain, severe breathing problems, serious bleeding or other severe injuries, such as broken bones.

Low- or no-cost care
Providence Community Care is funded by grants and donations. You will be asked to pay $5 to offset the cost of supplies. If you have no income, there will be no charge. You will need to bring some documentation to verify your household income (such as a current paycheck) or your lack of income. No one is denied care due to an inability to pay.

If it appears that you may be eligible for state medical assistance,we will direct you to the appropriate resource.

Free urgent dental care
To serve people who have no dental insurance and no means to pay for urgent dental care, Providence Community Care contracts with Northwest MedicalTeams International to bring its dental van to the hospital four times a year. On those days, volunteer dentists and assistants offer free care in the van, which is fully outfitted with dentistry equipment and supplies.

Financial assistance from the Seaside Kiwanis Club, Seaside Rotary and Providence Seaside Hospital Foundation helps cover the $300/day fee for use of the van. Various motels donate lodging for the van driver, while dentists and assistants volunteer their time in four-hour shifts.

Our dentist volunteer are Dr. George Nipp, Dr. Robert Karby, Dr. Dennis Klemp, Dr. Jeffrey Leinassar, Dr. Bryce Evans, Dr. Jon Bletscher and Dr. Scott Santos.

To make an appointment for the dental van, please call Kel Toomb at Providence Seaside Hospital at 503-717-7600.

Our mission
Providence Community Careis a low-cost health care clinic supported by Providence Health & Services, Providence Seaside Hospital and many dedicated volunteers from the community. All of these partners in care share a commitment to recognizing the value of life, respecting patients’ dignity, and enhancing the quality of life by providing health care to those whose needs remain unmet.

Providence Community Care serves residents of Clatsop County who live south of the Youngs Bay Bridge and who are not eligible for public or private programs and who have no other access to health care. The clinic evolves with the health care industry and the needs of the community.
