Lori, a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, believes that Mental Health problems are common to many people at different times in their lives. Most people feel ashamed to admit that these problems are occurring. “The brain is just another part of the body, and it is unfortunate that people are often ashamed to seek help for mental health conditions,” she says. “I like to help people feel better about themselves and improve the quality of their lives, but this is only accomplished when the patient is actively involved in the treatment process.”
Lori completed her undergraduate BSN at California State University in Sacramento.
After completing her Master’s degree in psychiatric nursing at OHSU in Portland, Oregon, Lori received her Psychiatric Health Nurse Practitioner, and later became certified as a Clinical Specialist in Adult Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing. She recently worked for a community mental health center and is returning to school at OHSU for a Post-Master’s Certificate Option in treating children and adolescents who have mental health problems. “If you treat children early then they have a better chance to enjoy a successful life,” states Lori.
Away from work and school, Lori enjoys gardening, beekeeping and weaving. She and her husband have a menagerie of farm animals.
