Volunteering with Providence Milwaukie Hospital

 

Overview

Providence Milwaukie Hospital’s volunteers serve 22 different departments within the hospital, with more than 30 different jobs being filled. Jobs range from gift shop clerk, eucharistic minister, music therapy, gift shop bookkeeper to special projects. Volunteers typically work a four hour shift, one day per week. Adult volunteers are requested to make a six-month commitment and student or teen volunteers are requested to make a three-month commitment.

All persons interested in volunteering at Providence Milwaukie Hospital should complete an application form and background disclosure (for those 18 and over). After receiving your application, you will be contacted to set up an appointment to discuss our program and see if there is a match for placement. The following is the Placement Process:

Volunteer Placement Process

As a Potential volunteer you will need to:

  • Submit a completed and signed Volunteer Application, and Background Disclosure form (only required if 18 and older) to the volunteer office
  • Attend a scheduled interview with the Director of Volunteer Services which will be scheduled by the volunteer office
  • Make a minimum commitment of 6 months coming once a week for 4 hours per week
  • If there is a match for placement:
    • Obtain a TB test provided by Providence Milwaukie Hospital
    • Provide proof of appropriate vaccinations (if applicable)
    • Obtain an ID badge
    • Attend a 1.5 hour volunteer orientation
    • Purchase a volunteer uniform

The Volunteer Services Department will:

  • Interview all potential volunteers and determine if there is a match for a volunteer assignment
  • Initiate a background check on all volunteers to include a criminal history and social security number verification
  • Notify prospective volunteer in the event of an adverse decision and initiate the Adverse Action Notification process as required by FCRA
  • Provide a volunteer orientation session
  • Provide ID badges and uniform
