Children are different from adults… in lots of ways. Their young bodies react differently to injury, fever, illness, infection and even to treatment and medication. When children are sick or injured, they don't need grown-up care. They need gentle, expert help from nurses and doctors skilled in caring for children.
In our community, Children's Emergency Care at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center is the right place for sick or injured children. Children's Emergency Care offers complete emergency medical services for children from birth to 17 years of age. Last year, we treated almost 15,000 children for complaints ranging from fevers and seizures to broken bones and eating disorders.

We work with your doctor
Good communication helps us provide excellent care. That's why we may call a child's doctor, why we always send the doctor a copy of our reports, and why we collaborate with pediatric specialists. We've even been known to call parents at home to follow up on a child's progress. If we were treating our own children, we would want nothing less!
We work with local children's hospitals
We safely discharge most (about 94 percent) of our young patients home directly from the Emergency Department. For those who need more extensive care, we arrange safe, timely transfers to appropriate children's hospitals.
