DETAILS: The Providence Gallery at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center hosts a collection of works from artist Virginia L. Leonnig, a former drawing and watercolor teacher. Leonnig is an award-winning artist who has exhibited her work since 1972. Her pieces have been shown in many juried exhibitions, including the Watercolor Society of Maryland, the Washington State Pastel Society and shows and competitions in Oregon.
Leonnig’s recent work reflects the influence of a two-year sailing trip in the Caribbean. Vibrant colors, motion and simplified abstraction create emotion and drama in her work. Her landscape paintings express the power, mystery and constant change of nature, while her figurative paintings present a rich view of cultural diversity.
The Providence Gallery exhibit is located in the main tower, second floor hallway of the hospital. Artwork is changed quarterly to showcase the creativity and culture of mature adults from Washington County and to emphasize the importance of art in healing. The art exhibit is a collaboration between Providence St. Vincent Medical Center and the Beaverton Arts Commission.
