Providence Newberg Chief Executive to Leave, Will Take on New Role with Providence in Southern California

March 10, 2009

NEWBERG, Ore. — Larry Bowe, chief executive of Providence Newberg Medical Center, has been named the new chief executive of Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, Calif. Bowe has served Providence in Newberg for the past five years. Previously, he spent six years as chief executive at Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital. Bowe assumes his new duties on April 20.

“The Providence Mission and core values are at the heart of what I believe in,” said Bowe. “I have truly enjoyed my time in Newberg and feel honored to have led this exceptional facility. I am confident that the excellent team here in Newberg will continue to make this an outstanding community hospital.”

Under Bowe’s leadership, Providence opened the new, state-of-the-art Providence Newberg Medical Center in 2006. Bowe also helped the hospital achieve significant gains in patient, employee and physician satisfaction as well as patient safety and quality.

“Though we’re sad to see him leave Oregon, Larry’s experience, enthusiasm, dedication and energy will be great additions to Providence in California,” said Terry Smith, chief operating officer for Providence Health & Services in Oregon. “His ability to inspire people will serve him well in this new role.”

Providence will name an interim executive shortly, and will begin a search for Bowe’s replacement immediately.
