Vibrant oil painting by Stephanie Lockerbie Gillette

DETAILS: “I have always drawn or painted and cannot imagine my life without doing art – it is just part of who I am,” says Gillette. “I combine my classical art training with my love for pure colors to create ‘bright art.’” She uses her knowledge from designing and building stained glass windows for more than ten years to enhance her realistic paintings with brilliant color. “I love the challenge of capturing the spirit and personality of the subject in a painting. I know a piece is finished when my spirit resonates with its message.”

Gillette’s studies include at the University of Alaska, at the Pilchuck Art School in Pilchuck, Wash., and with Siegfried Hahn in France. She has exhibited in the Bella Perla Gallery in Portland, the Lake Oswego Art Festival and the Long House Gallery in Oregon City.

The Providence Milwaukie Hospital Gallery exhibit changes quarterly to showcase the creativity and culture of the older adults of Clackamas County and to emphasize the importance of art therapy in the healing process. The art exhibit is a collaboration between Providence Milwaukie Hospital, and the Arts Alliance of Clackamas County.
