Yoga for Cancer Survivors
Up to 50 percent of people who complete cancer treatment report sleep problems. Providence Cancer Center is taking part in a new research study offered by Columbia River Oncology Program. The researchers involved will try to find out if yoga improves sleep. Study participants will receive Hatha yoga classes twice a week for four weeks at no cost. To qualify, participants must have completed cancer treatment between two and 24 months before enrolling in this study. Providence cancer experts can explain what this study could mean for cancer survivors who have trouble sleeping.
New Horizons in Breast Cancer Detection
Many questions arise when women begin working with their physicians on early detection of breast cancer, including:
When should you have your first mammogram?
What are the benefits of breast MRI?
What different options are available for women with implants, women with dense breasts and women at high risk for developing breast cancer?
Providence experts can provide answers and discuss the latest advances in breast imaging technology.
Natural Medicine in Cancer Treatment
Natural therapies can serve as a helpful complement to standard medical care for cancer. Diet and exercise, botanicals, acupuncture, massage and meditation are some of the natural approaches that may help patients stay cancer-free or improve their response to cancer treatment. Experts from Providence’s Integrative Medicine Program can discuss the ways diet can help reduce the risk of cancer, why exercise is important and whether fat is good or bad for you.
Mammosite Radiation
Thousands of women in the Northwest are diagnosed with breast cancer each year. But improvements are being made in all types of breast cancer prevention, detection and treatment. Radiation therapy is one way of treating breast cancer, where a patient typically has weekly treatment for several months. Now, a five-day radiation plan called Mammosite is rapidly changing the way some breast cancer patients are being treated by going right to the source. Providence Cancer Center is one of only two sites in Oregon and Southwest Washington that offer Mammosite radiation therapy.
