DETAILS: Providence Heart and Vascular Institute experts know one way to a healthy heart is through the stomach – so during American Heart Month in February, they are ready to share ideas on how to stock a pantry and how to prepare meals that are good for the heart. You will learn how to cook at home without spending hours in the kitchen and lots of money at the grocery store. Providence’s experts will offer tips on cooking with good fats, reducing calories intake without feeling deprived and keeping treats in your diet. And, they will help you learn to like healthy foods… all to keep your heart and you in good shape.
Cardiologists Doug Dawley, M.D., and James Beckerman, M.D., will provide on overview of cardiovascular disease. They will explain the risk factors of the disease, how to reduce risk factors and how to prevent the disease by adopting lifestyle changes. Providence Health & Services dietitian Valeria Edwards will describe what basic foods should fill a pantry at home, and Providence Health & Services chef Ted Greene will prepare a heart healthy dish – which will be shared with the audience members.
