Get in Shape With Providence’s East-side Fitness Classes

Registration is now open for all winter health and fitness classes offered on the east side of Portland by Providence Health & Services. For registration and price information, call 503-574-6595. For information on all Portland area classes, visit the Providence Web site at: www.providence.org/classes. Reporters needing a more detailed description of the classes listed below can call 503-215-6200.

Cardio Mix Class – Improve your fitness level with a challenging blend of high and low impact movement, step, kickboxing, circuit and interval training. Participants are encouraged to work at their own pace for 30 to 40 minutes of cardiovascular training. Due to the variety of exercise, participants are less likely to sustain overuse injuries.

Body Works Circuit – Combines aerobic and strength training in one fun class. Alternate between strength and aerobic “stations” for a well-rounded workout.

Express Circuit – Combines aerobic and strength training in one fast class. Alternate between strength and aerobic “stations” for a well-rounded workout.

Introduction to Kung Fu Fitness – This is a martial arts class with emphasis on conditioning, increasing aerobic capacity, speed and structural strength by exercising in a dynamic and intelligent way. Gently increase flexibility through using a greater range of motion during your training. Exercise doesn’t have to be boring and redundant. Kung fu requires concentration and attention to detail. Activate your mind while you work out by joining this ongoing course. This class is appropriate for people of all fitness levels. No prior experience in martial arts is needed. This is a safe, non-contact class.

Lunch On the Ball – Strong core muscles encourage good posture. In just 30 minutes, using a body ball and varied floor exercises, you will notice a difference in your stability and strength.

Pilates – This class consists of stretching, toning and controlling. Improve balance and coordination, as well as develop an awareness of your alignment and posture as you move through a variety of poses and exercises. Pre registration required.

Prime Time Fitness – This class enables adults over 50 to accommodate their bodies’ changing needs in a safe exercise program. Increases cardiovascular fitness and endurance, and improved strength and balance are among the many benefits. Prime Time Fitness will give you the energy to accomplish everyday activities and to enjoy life!
