Providence Hosts Promotores Celebration for Binational Health Week

WHAT: Eliminating Health Inequities: The Role of Community Health Workers
A dinner and presentation to honor the more than 500 community health workers in the Portland-metro area who promote health and well-being among the underserved in our community.

WHEN: 6:30 to 9 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 18

DETAILS: This bilingual dinner and presentation is to recognize the work of the hundreds of community health workers, known as promotores in Spanish, who respond to the unmet health needs of the growing Hispanic/Latino community as well as many other communities in the Portland area.

Binational Health Week is an annual weeklong series of health promotion and educational activities that includes workshops, insurance referrals and medical screenings. It has become one of the largest mobilization efforts to improve the health and well-being of underserved immigrants and migrants of Mexican and Central American origin living in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

This event is sponsored by Providence Health & Services, Multnomah County Health Department – Community Capacitation Center, and the Providence Parish Health Promotion Program.
