Providence Helps Kids Get “Healthy ‘n Fit”

June 22, 2009

WHAT: Providence Health & Services is now accepting registration for its fall 2009 Healthy ’n Fit class, a pediatric weight management program targeting children eight to 15 years old. The 10-week program is led by a certified dietitian and an exercise specialist. It includes nutrition counseling, physical activity and behavioral support. Its aim is to teach families how to develop healthy lifestyle habits to be sustained over the long term. At least one parent is required to attend.

Physician referral is required to participate, as well as lab work to assess the child’s current nutritional status in order to establish an individualized weight management program and to measure progress. Lab work includes lipid and thyroid panels, fasting glucose and insulin levels, and a current blood pressure. A pre-class nutritional assessment is also required to determine your child’s individual nutrition needs and goals. These requirements are not included in the class fee; please check with your insurance plan for coverage.
