Providence Child Center Recognizes Russ and Ann Humberston with 2008 “Heart of Gold” Award

Dec. 5, 2007

PORTLAND, Ore. – Russ and Ann Humberston, local business and community leaders, have been chosen to receive the 2008 Providence Child Center Foundation Heart of Gold Award. The annual Heart of Gold Award is given to those who are dedicated to improving the lives of children with special needs in a positive way through advocacy and action. The Humberstons will be presented with the award at the foundation’s 15th Annual Heart of Gold Dinner on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008, at Portland’s Governor Hotel.

“Russ and Ann are tremendously dedicated and compassionate supporters of Providence Child Center,” says Patricia Budo, administrator of Providence Child Center. “Their never-ending service and commitment to our special children began in 1992 and continues to this day.”

As the owners of Russ Beaverton Toyota, the Humberstons have been the presenting sponsors of the center’s annual NBA/NFL Charity Golf Challenge events for 15 years. Under their guidance, the event has raised well over $2 million to benefit the Center for Medically Fragile Children (CMFC) at Providence Child Center. In addition, Ann has been a member of the center’s foundation board for 15 years, serving as a volunteer and advocate for children and families. “Together, Russ and Ann’s genuine affection for and dedication to our youngest and most vulnerable citizens have moved family and friends to define them as individuals who truly have hearts of gold,” says Budo.

Proceeds from the Heart of Gold Dinner will benefit the Center for Medically Fragile Children – the only 24-hour pediatric skilled nursing facility in the Northwest dedicated to children with profound disabilities and complex medical needs.

CFMC is dedicated to children from birth to 21 years of age in need of long-term care, short-stay respite, post-surgical care and end-of-life services. Every aspect of these children’s lives is addressed from physical therapy to special education, nutritional services and recreational activities. The center provides this compassionate care at no financial burden to families with the support from foundation events such as the Heart of Gold Dinner.
