DETAILS: The Providence Milwaukie Hospital Gallery welcomes Pat Averill, who is known for her colored pencil landscapes. She says she virtually “inhales” the beauty of color, value, and shape around her when creating a painting. Mostly self-taught, Averill has received international acclaim in the medium of colored pencil through various publications and the Colored Pencil Society of America. She was published in the February/March, 2006 issue of International Artist magazine as one of 10 finalists in their landscape competition. She also has been published in Walter Foster’s Watercolor Pencil Step by Step in 2004, their Colored Pencil Step by Step published in 2003, and other books.
In October 2003 Averill was featured in an article for American Artist Magazine where she showed how to create a grassy landscape using a combination of water-soluble and wax/oil-based colored pencils. Averill has taught these techniques throughout the United States as well as locally and has created four landscape kits available through www.annkullberg.com.
