New Nurse Administrator Eager to Lead Team at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center

July 20, 2007

PORTLAND, Ore. —  A 20-year nurse leader joins the Providence St. Vincent Medical Center administration team to lead the nursing staff at Oregon’s first hospital to gain Nurse Magnet status.

Martie Moore, R.N., brings with her more than two decades of experience in complex healthcare delivery systems on the west and east coasts.

“Martie is focused on excellence in the nursing profession and quality patient care,” said Janice Burger, Providence St. Vincent Medical Center administrator. “We are delighted to have her join our team.”

As assistant administrator of nursing and patient care, Moore will lead a nursing staff of nearly 1,800 at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center, the oldest hospital in the state of Oregon. The 523 bed, state of the art tertiary care center is the busiest hospital in Oregon with 82,000 emergency department visits, 41,600 admissions and 6,300 births in 2006 alone.

“I am excited to join an organization that not only demonstrates excellence in care, but understands and ministers in a manner encompassing the body, mind and spirit,” said Moore.

In 2000 Providence St. Vincent Medical Center became the first hospital in Oregon to achieve magnet designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, the nation’s largest and most respected nursing accrediting and credentialing organization. Providence Portland Medical Center also received the honor in 2005. The Magnet Recognition Program for Excellence in Nursing Services recognizes facilities that provide the best nursing care and foster an environment where nurses can do quality work. It also provides consumers a benchmark to measure the quality of care they can expect to receive.

“I have always held Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in high regard for their nursing practice and care,” said Moore. “I am proud to join such an outstanding team.”

Moore most recently served as senior vice president of patient services at MaineGeneral Health in Maine, a regional health system with a variety of programs and services including acute care hospitals and long term care facilities totaling 579 beds.

Moore also has served in nursing leadership roles at medical facilities in Washington and Montana.

Moore has a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing and a Master of Arts degree in organizational management.
