Women’s Wellness Series Lecture: Rev Up Your Metabolism: Women and Weight Loss – Weight loss is a topic of concern for many Americans, especially women. Some women may gain weight more easily than others. The reasons include heredity, overeating, altered metabolism or decreased physical activity without an appropriate reduction in calories. No matter your motivation, successful weight loss and healthy weight management depend on reasonable goals and expectations. Healthy n' Fit: A Weight Management Program for Children and Teens – This 10-week pediatric weight management program is geared toward children ages 8 to 15. It is under the guidance of a pediatric dietitian and an exercise specialist and includes nutrition counseling, physical activity and behavioral support, and teaches families how to develop healthy, long-term lifestyle habits. Note: Physician referral, as well as lab work and assessment to determine the child’s nutritional status, are required. Changing From the Inside Out – Get to the root of your weight problem by identifying thoughts and feelings that affect your eating and activity patterns. In this group setting, you’ll share your stories and discover the complex path that has led to emotional eating. Groovin' a New Weigh – For Women Only – Designed for women, this eight-week program guarantees a boost of energy and support from certified professionals. Work in a motivating group atmosphere with a registered dietician and fitness specialist on making healthier food choices and sticking with an exercise program. Most classes include a 30-minute exercise component designed to educate and develop a home exercise program. Dress in loose comfortable clothing and athletic shoes for sessions 2 to 8. Not suitable for those with medical conditions that limit physical activity. Pedometer and Smart CHOICES workbook included. Note: Not recommended to take with "Changing from the Inside Out" as it may be challenging to do in the same term. Fee: $180. Providence Health Plan members: $55. Financial assistance is available.
